Support GBV programming

The nature and extent of GBV varies from context to context, but like HIV/AIDS and child protection, GBV is an issue that cuts across all sectors. To support GBV programming, there are a number of things to consider.

Firstly, to ensure that GBV is addressed in all programmes, the issue should be integrated into existing programme assessments, analyses and design mechanisms. Where possible community participation in GBV programme design, implementation and evaluation should be facilitated to create a sense of ownership and increase the likelihood of success.

Efforts should be made to ensure that staff have the resources and skills they need to deal appropriately with the issue. It is also important to support staff, and particularly those working directly on the issue, through supervision, mentoring or counselling.

The following resources provide information about supporting GBV programming including information about incorporating GBV in programme design and examples of pilot programmes.
