It is clear that addressing the issue of GBV and its consequences requires the concerted effort of governments, non-governments, communities and civil society as a whole. Programmes will need to incorporate the concept of human rights and commitment to gender equity and gender equality as stated in International Humanitarian Law such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
These documents are included in the list of below of International Conventions established to protect against and prevent GBV. The first two documents in the list below outline the main provisions of international law, which prohibit GBV armed conflict. They address international human rights law, international humanitarian law, international criminal law and international refugee law.
