GBV encompasses a wide range of human rights violations, including the sexual abuse of children, rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment and assault, the trafficking of women and girls and several harmful traditional practices.
These violations cannot be satisfactorily addressed through the provision of services within a single sector. Effective prevention and response to sexual violence requires a co-ordinated interagency effort across a number of sectors and in particular across the health, social services, legal and security sectors.
