Based on the shared experience and by extracting best practice from the Consortium members, the Human Resources, Learning and Training Group has published a Guidance Note on Institutionalising Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response within Organisations.
This will provide guidance based on establishing policies, codes of conduct, building staff capacity, integrating GBV into appraisals and design and linking with other organisations. It also guides the reader to key references and resources readily available.
The guidance notes outline key actions to be taken at an organisational level to institutionalise GBV responses:
- Establish a policy or integrate within an existing policy framework.
- Set standards of behaviour for all staff/partners and enforce them.
- Allocate high level responsibility (a team rather than an individual).
- Integrate GBV considerations into systems and procedures for appraisals, regional/country programme design, implementation and monitoring
- Build staff capacity through documenting programme experience, research and training.
- Link with civil society organisations including (inter/regional)national NGOs and human rights organisations to develop effective ways of working together.
- Give voice to GBV e.g. management and staff meetings at local regional and HQ level, raise GBV at training events.
- Draw lessons from HIV and gender mainstreaming.
